Tanzania and China plan collaboration on forest research and tourism
Tanzania’s Forestry Research Institute (TAFORI) and a visiting delegation of forestry experts from China’s Hunan Province have opened talks in Dodoma to deepen cooperation in research, conservation and forest tourism. Plans under discussion include establishing a botanical garden, joint studies on rare and endangered species, and data sharing – with a draft cooperation agreement to be prepared after the delegation’s return to China.
TAFORI leaders said the partnership would focus on research, innovation and technology transfer to strengthen forest management and beekeeping, while supporting visitor‑facing projects that showcase biodiversity. Officials from both sides highlighted opportunities for joint projects and skills exchange that could enhance Tanzania’s nature‑based tourism offer – from botanical attractions to improved interpretation across forest reserves.
