St Helena to Host World's Most Remote Marathon in 2027
St Helena will stage its inaugural World's Most Remote Marathon on 28 February 2027, offering participants the chance to race across the island's volcanic landscapes and lush highlands. Runners can choose from four distances - a full marathon (42.2 km), half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km, or 5 km - with the course running from Plantation House to Jamestown, the island's historic capital. Entry fees range from $15 (£12) for the 5 km to $79 (£65) for the full marathon, inclusive of a finisher medal and access to Adventure Week activities.
The event forms part of St Helena's Adventure Week, which also features the iconic Jacob's Ladder climb, guided hikes and open water swimming. The island is accessible via Airlink flights from South Africa, with additional services from Cape Town scheduled around the event. Due to limited flight and accommodation availability, early booking is advised. Jonathan Passaportis, Head of Tourism for St Helena Government, described the marathon as "an invitation to run in one of the most extraordinary and unique destinations on the planet."
