South Africa’s Minister of Tourism Opens Meetings Africa 2025, Highlighting Country’s G20 Readiness

South Africa’s Tourism Minister, Patricia de Lille, officially opened Meetings Africa 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, emphasising the continent’s growing prominence in the global events industry. She underscored Africa’s readiness to host major international gatherings, including the upcoming G20 Summit—the first to be held on African soil. De Lille positioned the summit as a significant milestone for Africa’s role in global business, tourism, and economic leadership.

Addressing industry leaders and stakeholders, she highlighted the economic impact of Meetings Africa, revealing that last year’s event contributed approximately R420 million to South Africa’s economy. With more than 410 exhibitors from 27 African countries, the platform continues to drive investment, job creation, and collaboration across the MICE industry. De Lille reaffirmed South Africa’s commitment to delivering world-class events, positioning the continent as a leader in business tourism.
