South African travel tech start-up Conservio has raised R19 million ($1 million) in a second funding round led by E4E Africa, with additional investment from Volve Capital, Living Hope Ventures, and angel investors, including Payfast founder Jonathan Smit. Founded in 2020, Conservio focuses on connecting travellers with nature-based properties that prioritise habitat conservation and sustainability. The funding will support the expansion of its portfolio to over 2,000 properties across Southern Africa and grow its customer base.

E4E Africa’s managing partner, Bas Hochstenbach, highlighted Conservio’s potential to drive sustainable growth, create rural jobs, and generate income for conservation initiatives. Co-founder Justin Rijnberg noted a growing demand for independent travel and seamless online booking experiences, particularly among tech-savvy travellers seeking unique stays in natural settings.
