Sierra Leone Launches Creative Economy Report to Bolster Tourism
Sierra Leone’s Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has launched the Creative Economy Diagnostic Report, signalling a strategic move to strengthen the country’s cultural sector as a key driver of economic growth. The report, developed by Creative Hub Africa with support from the World Bank, European Union, and other development partners, was unveiled in Freetown and outlines growth opportunities and performance metrics for the sector, which currently contributes 4.5% to GDP and over 10% of national employment.
Tourism Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis, who officiated the launch, highlighted the government's renewed commitment to creative and tourism sectors under the 2024–2030 National Development Plan. The event also celebrated the graduation of 24 participants from the Creatifi Pilot Program, designed to support emerging creative talent. The new report forms part of a broader policy shift to rebrand Sierra Leone’s creative industries, promote cultural entrepreneurship, and attract investment for sustainable economic diversification.
