Shompole Wilderness offers Two different Photographic Hides
The second photographic hide is now open! It offers incredible opportunities to capture wildlife both day and night. With custom lighting around the waterhole, you can choose front, back, or side lighting for that perfect shot — all the gadgets and gizmos are in place to make your experience unforgettable!!! Ideal for photographers, families and small groups of friends. We will never mix; families can take one hide (on a family basis), while photographers can take the other, so everyone is happy. The two hides are set 1.5 kms apart - the original hide, known as the Plains Hide, is set in a more open area, whereas the new hide, known as Kichaka Hide, is set in a bushy area with thick grass. The hides are similar inside; however, the Kichaka Hide is slightly larger.
This area is incredibly photogenic for many reasons - the southern Rift Valley, between Lake Natron and Lake Magadi, is a significant biodiversity hotspot characterized by unique ecosystems including alkaline soda lakes, savannahs, and grasslands. This area supports over 400 bird species that share this dramatic landscape with big cats, plains game, and a plethora of big and small game. The volcanic landscape has shaped these unique habitats, creating specialised ecological niches which play an important role with endemic species and serve as a critical area for migratory and resident birds. It’s a place of rare beauty and deep silence — where nature still reigns wild and free.
