Plans for a 26-room nature lodge at Grand Barbe on Silhouette Island, Seychelles, have been unveiled. This eco-friendly development would become only the second beach-facing resort on the island, joining the existing Hilton Seychelles Labriz.

Silhouette Island, renowned for its unspoiled beauty, boasts a remarkable 90% of its land designated as a nature reserve. With fewer than 150 inhabitants, the island remains one of Seychelles' most pristine destinations.

The proposed lodge, operated by Kenya-based Arijiju, aims to integrate seamlessly with the natural environment and historical structures. Richard Smith, an Arijiju representative, emphasised their commitment to conservation, particularly regarding the turtle nesting area on Grand Barbe beach.

Environmental considerations are paramount, with a class one Environmental Impact Assessment underway. The Island Conservation Society has been appointed as the environmental consultant for the project.

The development, planned to open in 2026, would span 10-12 hectares. Authorities are carefully assessing the proposal to balance preservation needs with development, ensuring Silhouette's unique ecology and low-impact tourism model are maintained.
