Saruni Basecamp are delighted to confirm that a 25-year management agreement has recently been signed with the Masai Mara Lemek Landowners Conservancy Ltd, which ensures continued support for both tourism and conservation through a reliable conservancy model for many years to come. Lemek Conservancy leases land from 270 individual Maasai landowners, who receive substantial and direct income from tourism.

Tourism directly supports conservation through daily ‘park’ fees – this revenue is the main source of commercial income for the community, used not only to run the conservancy but to provide members with support in areas such as health and education. It also provides them with a powerful financial incentive to keep community land protected & conserved and in its natural state dedicated exclusively to tourism activity, ensuring the wildlife can traverse freely and safely throughout. Saruni Wild is instrumental in the protection of this unspoilt, protected wilderness of Lemek Conservancy. By visiting Saruni, guests are directly giving back to the community who protect this beautiful land, improving their quality of life, whilst at the same time encouraging the purpose for conservation.
