Rwanda to introduce tourism levy

The government of Rwanda has revealed plans to implement a tourism tax to aid the development of the sector. The levy for the duration of stay will be payable by tourists and pegged at 3% of the total hotel room rate, and was approved by Rwanda’s Cabinet on February 10, among several tax policy reforms.
The Cabinet’s statement on the changes did not specify when the proposals would come into effect but insisted that the reforms would be adopted before the end of Rwanda’s 2024/25 financial year.
