From savanna in the south and woodland in the north to everything in between - coastal stretches, estuaries, mangroves, riverbanks with fresh and brackish water zones, swamps covered with forests and many wetlands – the landscape of The Gambia is as diverse as it is wonderful. Home to chimpanzees, hippos, manatees, crocodiles, monkeys and baboons, the official national animal of Gambia is the spotted hyena, some lucky visitors can spot a leopard and there is an array of birds to see including the pied kingfisher, yellow-billed stork.
