Nigeria is blessed with a series of distinctive landscapes: from deserts, savannahs and plains to swamps, mountains and verdant jungles. It also boasts one of the largest river systems in the world and the third largest delta on earth, the Niger Delta. A large number of different mammals can be found in the country. From lions, leopards, African elephants, African buffaloes, African manatees to rhinos, monkeys, baboons, western gorillas, chimpanzees and more. There are also an abundance of species of whale and dolphins in Nigerian waters. About 940 species of bird have been recorded, five of them endemic.
