Côte d'Ivoire is known for its rich biodiversity with lagoons and semitropical growth in the south to savanna grassland and scrub in the north. Mountain ranges extend along the western border and a few peaks dominate the northeast corner. It is the most biodiverse country in West Africa and the varied landscapes encourage an abundance of thriving species of mammals, fish, birds, reptiles, primates and plants.
