Portugal Backs Tourism Training Push in Mozambique
Portugal has reaffirmed plans to deepen tourism cooperation with Mozambique, with a fresh commitment to revive the long-delayed Hotel School project. Pedro Machado, Portugal’s secretary of state for tourism, trade and services, made the announcement during a visit to Maputo for the 60th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM), which runs until 31 August. He emphasised Portugal’s readiness to invest in tourism training, capacity building and professional internships, highlighting the country’s experience through its national network of public tourism schools.
Machado also pointed to increased bilateral interest in public-private partnerships, with Portuguese entrepreneurs reportedly open to involvement in the Mozambican hospitality sector. The visit forms part of wider efforts to boost economic ties, with ongoing discussions planned with Mozambican officials. FACIM 2025, held under the theme “Promoting Economic Diversification Towards Sustainable and Competitive Development in Mozambique”, is expected to draw 3,150 exhibitors and around 70,000 visitors, spotlighting Mozambique’s growing appeal as a tourism and investment hub.
