Okavango Expeditions and Tented Camps - MmaTsebe “Tented” Camp

MmaTsebe Tented Camp the first of our tented camp circuit which opened April 2024, very well received in the market and feedback from guests who have had the pleasure of experiencing the Magic of MmaTsebe Tented Camp has been amazing!!

An authentic tented bush camp carefully positioned within an ancient riverine forest along the Mbudi River in Khwai on the Northern boundary of Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana. Named after the legendary leopardess Mmatsebe (meaning marked ear), was the most well-known female leopard famously known for her numerous daylight hunting sessions, in the Moremi area. Only a 30-minute game drive from Khwai Airstrip to the only west facing camp in Khwai, in a tranquil setting offering beautiful sunsets.

The design and style around MmaTsebe is Repurpose, Recycle, Regenerate, Reduce… bearing in mind our environmental and social conscience, all the furniture in camp has been repurposed and upcycled, leadwoods that have fallen in the area have been reused in camp.

Meals are a combination of Traditional (Setswana) and Fusion (International) inspired dishes which vary from A local favourite “Magwinya” also known as “African Fat Cakes” served with a delicious icing sugar drizzle, Sorghum carrot cake, Sorghum butternut mash and many more interesting, mouthwatering recipes created by Edna Rosen author of the “Taste of Botswana” cookbook.

Enjoy exciting Game drives in an open safari vehicle, relaxed mokoro trips or just chill at swimming pool sipping on a “G&T” with Botswana’s very own Okavango Gin… a firm favourite during a “chill out” session.

On the full day Okavango Experience, guests can enjoy game driving through the Moremi Game Reserve, a picnic lunch on a one-of-a-kind repurposed barge refurbished with an upper deck offering a panoramic view of the Okavango waterways, channels, and lagoons. There is a good chance of spotting the elusive Sitatunga from the top level of this boat. This activity departs camp after breakfast and will return in time for sundowners, depending on the game viewing along the way.
