Nigeria Bids to Host 2030 Commonwealth Games

Nigeria has officially entered the race to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, submitting a formal bid ahead of the 31 August deadline, according to Commonwealth Sport. The announcement marks a significant moment for the event’s centenary edition, with Nigeria emerging as a potential first-time host of the multi-sport competition.

India has also submitted a competing bid, aligning with its broader ambitions to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Commonwealth Sport President Donald Rukare welcomed both proposals, commending the countries for their dynamic approach and noting the potential for the Games to support national development goals. The bids offer renewed optimism for the future of the Games, following concerns sparked by Australia’s withdrawal from hosting duties for 2026.
