Gamewatchers & Porini Camps   focus for over 30 years has been to use small scale tourism to protect habitat in partnership with communities in Kenya.

Due to an ever-increasing population, land use change and other factors it is crucial that wildlife corridors are created and protected to ensure that there is a genetic flow of wildlife and that the current safe areas of habitat don’t become 'islands'.

As such, Gamewatchers has become a founding tourism partner of the new 13,500 acre Mara Ripoi Conservancy which is located next to Ol Kinyei Conservancy (Masai Mara) and with this they now have created a protected corridor for wildlife along the Ripole River into Ol Kinyei conservancy which is connected to Naiboisho conservancy, Olare Motorogi conservancy and the Mara reserve. Mara Ripoi also connects to the Siana Conservancy to the south and on to the Mara Reserve, allowing free movement of wildlife from the Reserve as well as across the wildlife corridor along the Ripole River to Ol Kinyei Conservancy. This has made Mara Ripoi a critical protected habitat connecting important and large wildlife areas and allowing free movement of elephants, lions, cheetah, herbivores and many other animals.

The Mara Ripoi conservancy is founded on a tranche of land belonging to about 1,600 Maasai individuals from the local community who have now leased it for 25 years so that the area can be conserved as a protected habitat for the teeming wildlife. They will in turn benefit through a regular income paid monthly and increasing every year for the lease, plus jobs that will arise from the 3 small camps within the conservancy as well as within the conservancy itself - like wardens and rangers.

The Mara Ripoi conservancyhas a large abundance of wildlife, especially Maasai giraffes and is an important area for wildebeest and the big cats. Mara Ripoi Conservancy is home to only three small safari camps making your visit here not only an exclusive experience but one that respects the principles of eco-tourism. Apart from those of the small eco-camps, no other tourist vehicles are allowed into the Conservancy so guests staying here have the thousands of acres in the conservancy to themselves; 1 guest tent protects at least 700 acres.

The Mara Ripoi area is renowned for its diverse landscapes and abundance of wildlife, including being excellent lion habitat. The local Maasai make first class guides and are on hand to share their experience on what to see and do.
