New book honours African tourism pioneers
Senegalese tourism expert Mouhamed Faouzou Deme will release The Complexity and Complementarity of Tourism on 4 April – Senegal’s Independence Day – highlighting collaboration, sustainability and the role of biodiversity in Africa’s tourism future. The book recognises three sector leaders – Najib Balala (Kenya), Alain St Ange (Seychelles) and Hamat Bah (The Gambia) – for their contributions to tourism development, with St Ange contributing an afterword on preserving nature as a core tourism asset.
The publication calls on governments, stakeholders and communities to adopt sustainable practices and treat biodiversity as a strategic resource. Launch events include a signing on 4 April in Senegal and a second in The Gambia. Deme brings more than 30 years’ experience in tourism policy and operations, including advisory roles to Senegal’s tourism ministry, leadership of CATF and ONDTS, and international recognition for his industry contributions.
