Namibia unveils five-year strategy to accelerate recovery and expand air access
The Namibia Tourism Board has unveiled a five-year strategy to shift the sector from recovery to deliberate expansion under CEO Sebulon Chicalu. The plan prioritises institutional reform, stronger data systems and stakeholder engagement, alongside improved air connectivity through the new Air Connect Namibia forum to coordinate route development, co-marketing and market activation with airlines.
The framework focuses on capacity building and product development, and broadening source markets to North America, Canada, India, China and emerging Europe while maintaining Germany and the UK. Delivery measures include hosted trade familiarisation trips and airline partnerships – Discover adding Munich, Fly Namibia expanding regional links and Ethiopian Airlines increasing frequencies and supporting trade activation – with a medium term plan for a national carrier, Namibia Air. NTB is targeting around 1.5 million visitors in the near term, up from 1.2 million in 2024, leveraging recent international recognition to support commercial negotiations and higher visitor spend.
