Mozambique Tourism Summit opens in Vilankulos to boost destination profile
Mozambique’s first Tourism Summit opened today in Vilankulos, Inhambane province, positioning the country as an important destination for business and leisure travel. The two-day conference – opened by President Daniel Chapo – is expected to attract more than 300 international guests, with Economy Minister Basílio Muhate saying the event aims to spur investment in hotels and related services.
Government priorities for 2025 – 2029 include attracting major international events and strengthening digital marketing. Tourism revenue exceeded €200 million in 2024, with targets of €360 million by 2029, lifting the sector’s contribution to GDP from 4.02% to 6% and employment from 14,603 to 22,115. International arrivals surpassed 870,000 in 2023, supported by visa waivers for travellers from 29 countries.
