Mozambique tourism leaders push community-led growth
Mozambique’s tourism entrepreneurs have called for greater community participation and streamlined regulation to help position the sector as a pillar of development. Speaking at the 20th Annual Private Sector Conference (CASP) on 14 November, CTA National Business Commission president and Cotur chief Noor Momade urged co‑created itineraries with local leaders, accreditation of community guides, transparent revenue sharing that fixes a local share, and procurement from regional suppliers to generate jobs and support conservation.
Momade said government should cut bureaucracy, speed decisions and invest in infrastructure, while businesses invest in equipment, co‑finance promotion, improve service quality and back competition in aviation to lower domestic fares currently charged by state‑owned LAM. The agenda aligns with President Daniel Chapo’s 4 November pledge to push Mozambique into the global top 10 destinations, with measures including an e‑visa platform, visa on arrival for African citizens, investment visas – 10‑year residency for investments from $5 million (€4.3 million) and five‑year for $500,000 (€432,000) – and liberalised access for domestic private flights to boost connectivity.
