Millions of flamingos flock to Kenyan World Heritage Site

Kenya's Baringo County is experiencing a tourism surge as millions of flamingos have migrated to Lake Bogoria following a successful breeding season in Tanzania's Lake Natron. The birds, which typically return between June and July, arrived last week, including thousands of young flamingos.

The lake's senior warden, James Kimaru, reports that the flamingos' migration pattern has remained consistent for seven years. Their arrival coincides with the peak tourism season, significantly increasing visitor numbers.

Local accommodations are feeling the impact. Lake Bogoria Spa Resort manager Lydia Dentewo states their facilities are fully booked for two months, prompting plans to add 120 rooms and tented camps.

Lake Bogoria, a World Heritage Site, is now hosting larger flamingo populations than Lake Nakuru, where numbers have declined due to rising water levels and pollution.
