Matamwandi departs Zambia Tourism Agency after three-year tenure
Matongo Matamwandi has concluded his three‑year term as Chief Executive Officer of the Zambia Tourism Agency, closing a period marked by sector reforms and stronger global visibility for Destination Zambia. Appointed in 2022, he oversaw a post‑pandemic rebound in which international arrivals more than doubled – from 1.1 million in 2022 to 2.3 million in 2025 – boosting foreign exchange earnings and tourism’s contribution to the economy.
During his tenure, ZTA launched the YAMULOKO domestic tourism campaign, introduced the Tourism Excellence Awards to lift service standards, and advanced the Zambia Travel Expo (ZATEX) to create market access for SMEs. Reflecting on the role, Matamwandi said it had been the busiest period of his career, underscoring the pace of change within Zambia’s tourism sector.
