Landmark Bulawayo hotel nears completion of major refurbishment
The Cresta Churchill Hotel in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, is approaching the final stages of an extensive refurbishment programme set to be completed by the end of 2024. The renovation, which coincides with the hotel's 50th anniversary, includes modernisation of all 50 bedrooms and suites.
The project, which began in April, has already seen the completion of work on 46 bedrooms, with the remaining four suites soon to be finished. Improvements include new soft and hard furnishings and upgraded bathrooms throughout the two-storey property.
Rutendo Badenhorst, Cresta Hotels' managing director for Zimbabwe, emphasised that the refurbishment aims to maintain the hotel's leading position in Bulawayo's hospitality sector. The last renovation was completed in 2017.
The hotel, known for its modern Elizabethan architecture, features two main conference rooms, The Inglenook restaurant and cocktail bar, and a swimming pool in a courtyard setting. It has been a popular venue for both business and leisure travellers since 1974.
Strategically located on the main road to the Matobo Hills World Heritage Site, the hotel experiences peak seasons during major city events including the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Sanganayi/Hlanganani tourism fair, and the Mine Entra mining conference.
