Kenya Wildlife Service Launches Live Wildlife Broadcasts to Drive Tourism Interest
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has launched KenyaLIVE, a six-month live wildlife broadcasting initiative developed in partnership with the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and WildEarth Productions. Broadcasts began on 7 September, streaming live footage from nine parks and conservation areas including Nairobi National Park, Amboseli, Tsavo East and Tsavo West, the Aberdares, Sibiloi, Meru, Ruma and Mount Elgon. The programme is available across 16 global platforms - including DStv, YouTube, Samsung TV Plus and Roku - and is currently reaching more than 500,000 daily unique viewers.
The initiative is designed to build international and domestic interest in Kenya's wildlife and conservation work, with morning and afternoon broadcast sessions showcasing ranger patrols, scientific monitoring and community engagement alongside wildlife footage. Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano described virtual tourism as a tool for inspiring physical visits rather than replacing them, while KWS Director General Erastus Kanga highlighted the broadcasts as an opportunity to bring wider audiences closer to the realities of conservation on the ground. KTB CEO June Chepkemei added that the programme would also expose viewers to the broader range of tourism experiences Kenya has to offer.
