Kenya, Burundi Leading Sources of Visitors to Tanzania
Tanzania Mainland welcomed 794,102 international tourists between January and May 2025, marking a 3.7% increase from the same period in 2024 and a 54.3% rise over pre-pandemic levels recorded in 2019. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, this represents the highest number of arrivals for the January–May period in a decade, indicating strong momentum in the country’s tourism recovery and growth.
Kenya emerged as the leading source market during the five-month period, contributing over 93,000 visitors. Other top markets included Burundi, the United States, France, and Italy. Monthly data showed consistent growth, with peak arrivals in January and February. The figures reinforce Tanzania’s continued appeal as a key East African destination, drawing steadily rising interest from both regional and long-haul markets.
