JKIA operations normalise as aviation workers end strike
Flights have resumed and operations are normalising at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and other Kenyan airports after the Kenya Aviation Workers Union signed a return‑to‑work formula with airport authorities. The deal followed mediation led by Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir, with the Ministry of Labour, Kenya Airports Authority, KAWU and the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority participating. Passengers are advised to contact airlines for updated schedules as services return to full capacity after delays were experienced.
KAA commended the parties for constructive engagement, while acting Chief Executive Dr Mohamud Gedi reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to safety, efficiency and operational excellence. The resolution is expected to ease travel disruptions, clear backlogs and restore confidence in Kenya’s aviation sector – supporting business travel, cargo operations and inbound tourism.
