Indonesia and South Africa sign tourism MoU

Indonesia and South Africa have signed a tourism memorandum of understanding in Jakarta on 5 February 2026, committing to cooperation across seven strategic areas to drive sustainable growth and deepen bilateral ties. Concluded by Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana and South Africa’s Tourism Minister Patricia De Lille, the MoU covers sustainable tourism, human resource development, marketing and promotion, tourism investment, safety and service standards, research and development, and other sector initiatives.

The ministers said the partnership will prioritise connectivity, visas and joint promotion to increase two‑way flows, with De Lille calling for more direct flights between the countries. In 2025, 36,548 South Africans visited Indonesia, while about 3,000 Indonesians travelled to South Africa, highlighting scope for growth.
