Indonesia and South Africa agree mutual visa-free travel
Indonesia and South Africa have agreed to abolish visas for each other’s nationals, with the new entry procedure announced by Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at a business forum in Johannesburg. The move follows October talks in Jakarta between President Prabowo Subianto and President Cyril Ramaphosa and marks a deepening partnership likely to ease travel for tourism and business.
Alongside the visa decision, both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding covering strategic industrial areas. Indonesia signalled plans to increase investment in South Africa, notably in agriculture and energy, and described South Africa as a gateway to wider African markets. In turn, Jakarta highlighted access to the ASEAN market, a combination that could support two-way visitor growth, trade missions and airline capacity planning.
