Greetings from Khartoum - Sudan

Dear Friends and colleagues

Greetings from Khartoum - Sudan.

First, thanks for all your supportive messages. We feel your strength and positive thoughts.

As you may have heard, since last Saturday morning, the safety situation in Khartoum and Sudan has dramatically changed.

The two main Sudanese armies of Sudan, led by the two Generals who did the last two coups, disagreed on how to merge into the one country army.

Despite the reassuring words said early on Saturday morning by the 2 leaders, at around 09.30 the 2 armies suddenly started to shoot at each other in the Khartoum area. All bridges over the Blue and White Niles, were closed, isolating Khartoum from the other sister cities of Omdurman and Khartoum North.

Since that moment, fighting is going on between the two armies mainly around the presidential palace, the army compound and the Khartoum airport, which is closed.

We are all safe, most of our colleagues are safe at home with their families, 3 drivers and 2 guides are with our few clients:

2 people in Karima Nubian rest house, 2 people are in Meroe camp, 5 people are in Omdurman in the house of their guide: Khalid. The small group was visiting Omdurman market when the bridges closed and could not return to their hotels in Khartoum. They are totally fine, in a safe neighbourhood, there is food, electricity and they are experiencing first hand hospitality by the friendly Sudanese family.

All of them are safe and well.

I am in the Khartoum office, with one guide: Ezaldine, the office guardian and the permanent guardian who lives here with his family.

In Khartoum office, we are safe, but we hear all the gunshots and blasts.

Embassies are aware of all our guests in the country, and they will let us know what to do, when it will be safe to evacuate.

In this very moment, the important thing is to stay safe, positive and pray for Sudan.

It is difficult to say or to predict, when this unexpected situation will end, nor to predict the future for the country.

We know that many of you, feature Sudan in the brochures and website and we are very proud of the trust you have in our service and professionalism.

As we cannot predict, we can only say now, that you can count on us on first-hand information and we will operate tours as soon as we are sure that the situation is safe and enjoyable for people to visit the incredible archaeological sites and to experience friendly Sudanese hospitality.

The tourist season is over; as we are due to close our properties of Meroe and Karima at the end of April, due to the high summer temperatures and yearly maintenance to the properties.

The best season to visit Sudan is Between October and April.

We are really hoping that by next October we will be operating the usual enjoyable tours we are delivering since the year 2000.

In my experience, people that want to visit Sudan, they will wait until it is possible to do so. We will be here to welcome them when the time will be right.
