Grand Egyptian Museum to Open in November
Egypt will open the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza on 1 November 2025, with the main inauguration followed by invited events on 2 and 3 November before public access from 4 November. Located 2km from the Great Pyramids, the $1 billion complex is described as the world’s largest archaeological museum, housing more than 50,000 artefacts including the complete Tutankhamun collection. Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sherif Fathy said the opening would be “a night to remember” after earlier delays linked to regional events.
Authorities expect daily visitors to rise from 5,000–6,000 to as much as triple post‑opening, supporting a sector that contributes 8.5% of GDP and 2.7 million jobs. Egypt is targeting 18 million visitors in 2025, up from 15.7 million in 2024. Mr Fathy said the museum’s security systems are robust, distancing them from recent theft incidents elsewhere, while new galleries and features – including major Ramesses II displays and a restoration centre – aim to strengthen Egypt’s global cultural appeal.
