The Uganda Wildlife Authority recently announced an increase in permit fees for primate trekking experiences from 1 July 2024. This includes several national parks: Bwindi Impenetrable, Mgahinga, Kibale Forest and Queen Elizabeth National Park. For non-resident visitors, the new gorilla trekking permit fee will go up from $700 to $800.
The chimpanzee permits in Kibale Forest National Park will increase from $200 to $250 while those for Kyambura Gorge (in Queen Elizabeth National Park) will double from $50 to $100.
Permits that have already been purchased will be honoured at the old rates, but the new fees will apply to any unconfirmed or new bookings made after 1 July 2024. Bookings made between now and 30 June 2024 will still qualify for the original permit prices.
