Ghana records 11.35% rise in December arrivals as 2025 tourism report highlights mixed results

Ghana recorded 141,186 international arrivals in December 2025, up from 126,791 in December 2024 - an 11.35% increase - according to the 2025 Ghana Tourism Report, published under the theme "Resilience and Sustainable Growth". The festive season, widely known as "Detty December" or "December in GH", continues to draw thousands of visitors, particularly from the African diaspora, for concerts, cultural events, festivals and heritage tourism activities. For the full year, Ghana recorded 1,306,962 international tourist arrivals, a 1.4% increase on the 1,288,804 arrivals recorded in 2024.

Despite the growth in visitor numbers, international tourism receipts declined from $4.83 billion in 2024 to $4.34 billion in 2025. Domestic tourism remained a significant pillar of the sector, with more than 1.79 million visits recorded across 55 tourist sites nationally. Licensed tourism enterprises grew from 6,702 to 7,109, travel trade activities expanded by 18.6%, and the entertainment and conference segment registered 14.3% growth. Cruise tourism also continued its expansion, with 18 ship calls and 5,488 passengers arriving through the ports of Tema and Takoradi during the year. The report is intended to support policy formulation, investment decisions and strategic planning across Ghana's tourism value chain.
