Gambia Closes London Tourism Office in Ministry Reorganisation

The Gambia Tourism Board's London office has closed as part of a reorganisation by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, with a formal farewell held at the Gambia High Commission on 17 April 2026. Adama Njie, who served as Director of Tourism Promotion for the United Kingdom, has been reassigned to the Gambia Tourism Board headquarters in Banjul, where he will take on the role of Director of Marketing. Omar Demba also departed, with both officers receiving certificates of recognition from High Commissioner Fatou Bensouda for their contributions to promoting Destination Gambia in the UK since 2022.

The London office, operational since the 1970s, has long been a key platform for promoting The Gambia to the British market, one of the destination's most significant source markets. During his tenure, Njie led The Gambia's participation at World Travel Market at ExCeL London, where the country received a Best Stand award in 2025. Deputy Head of Mission Suntou Touray expressed hope that the office could be reopened in future, citing its strategic importance, while Bensouda acknowledged that the loss of a physical tourism presence in London would be felt. The closure marks the end of a decades-long chapter in The Gambia's international tourism promotion efforts.
