Gambia and South Africa Move Towards Visa-Free Travel
The Gambia and South Africa are set to strengthen bilateral ties with plans for a Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement aimed at facilitating easier travel between the two countries. The proposal was a key outcome of talks between Gambian Foreign Minister Sering Modou Njie and South African counterpart Ronald Lamola, held on the sidelines of TICAD 9 in Tokyo. The initiative is expected to enhance trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between the nations.
In addition to visa policy discussions, the ministers agreed to deepen cooperation in diplomatic training and institutional capacity building. Both sides underlined the value of shared expertise and training as a means to bolster their diplomatic frameworks. The move marks a strategic step in cementing closer relations, with the tourism sector likely to benefit significantly from improved travel access.
