South African low-cost carrier FlySafair is gearing up for a busy summer season by adding two Boeing 737-800 NGs to its fleet. The move is set to increase the airline's daily flight capacity by 12 to 14 flights, with the first aircraft due to enter service in September and the second in November.

Kirby Gordon, FlySafair's chief marketing officer, cites high market pricing and rising December bookings as key factors behind the expansion. The new aircraft are likely to bolster routes within South Africa's Golden Triangle of Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban.

This capacity increase comes as the South African aviation market shows signs of recovery, with 2023 passenger levels reaching 90% of pre-pandemic figures. FlySafair aims to keep air travel affordable for South Africans, facilitating family connections and domestic tourism.

The addition will bring FlySafair's total fleet to 36 aircraft, each new plane adding 189 seats per flight.
