Festival Internasional Kreol comes to Mauritius for 2024
The Indian Ocean island of Mauritius will showcase its rich cultural heritage during the Festival Internasional Kreol, running from 12-22 December across multiple communities.
The festival, organised by the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) and Ministry of Tourism, will feature traditional music performances, artistic exhibitions, language celebrations, local handicrafts and authentic Mauritian cuisine.
Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam will officially launch the festivities at Le Morne, a UNESCO World Heritage site significant to the island's Creole history. The opening ceremony will kick off ten days of events designed to highlight the authenticity of Mauritian Kreol culture.
The 2024 edition promises what organisers describe as "a whole new dimension" in showcasing Mauritian culture, with programmes planned to maximise participation from both locals and international visitors. The festival is expected to provide significant exposure for local artists while boosting the nation's economy through cultural tourism.
International media coverage of the festival is set to be extensive, with press representatives confirmed from multiple countries including the UK, Germany, India, and the Seychelles. This global attention aligns with the Junior Minister of Tourism's vision of promoting Mauritius as an attractive tourist destination through its rich cultural heritage.
The timing of the festival, during the traditional peak December tourism season, offers visitors the opportunity to experience both the island's renowned beaches and a deep dive into authentic Kreol culture.
