Political and security situation in Madagascar
Significant protests took place in Antananarivo and other parts of Madagascar in late September and early October 2025, including incidences of violence and looting. A group within the military announced on 14 October that it had taken control, and an interim President was invested on 17 October. This appears to have been widely welcomed, and the situation is now calm. Follow local advice and avoid all large gatherings and political demonstrations.
