Fastjet Mozambique cleared to launch domestic flights as market opens
Solenta Aviation Mozambique has received a scheduled services licence from Mozambique’s regulator, the IACM, on 17 December, paving the way to launch regular domestic flights under a revived Fastjet Mozambique brand. The approval follows a 16 December decree updating the country’s air transport framework – aimed at liberalising domestic aviation and strengthening oversight – and marks a notable opening of the market to new entrants.
The company said it will review licence conditions before detailing its rollout, with an initial focus on building a strong domestic network. Earlier plans to start in June 2025 with two ERJ145s under a Fastjet franchise were delayed by regulatory hurdles. Solenta already holds an unscheduled AOC and has operated ACMI and charter services in Mozambique since 2009. The move introduces fresh competition to a market dominated by LAM – which is rebuilding its fleet with two E190s – and could improve connectivity and pricing for business and leisure travel.
