EU Launches €8 Million Sustainable Tourism and Trade Initiative in Uganda

The European Union has launched the Sustainable Business for Uganda (SB4U) 2.0 – Trade and Investment Development project, a €8 million initiative aimed at strengthening Uganda’s tourism and trade sectors through sustainable and digital development. Running from 2024 to 2028, the project aligns with Uganda’s National Development Plan IV and is designed to boost inclusive growth by supporting eco-tourism, improving infrastructure, and fostering green job creation. It also seeks to enhance competitiveness in both regional and international tourism markets.

A key focus of SB4U 2.0 is to address underlying constraints in Uganda’s tourism industry, such as connectivity, environmental sustainability, and access to global platforms. The initiative will support tourism SMEs with digital tools, infrastructure investment, and training in sustainable practices, targeting both inbound travellers from Europe and cross-border tourism within Africa. By leveraging the country’s natural attractions and its trade relationship with the EU, the programme promotes Uganda as a sustainable and globally connected tourism destination.
