Aviation Week Africa Opens in Namibia with Push for Better Connectivity

The third edition of Aviation Week Africa opened in Windhoek on 22 April, bringing together senior government officials, aviation leaders and industry stakeholders to strengthen air connectivity and economic integration across the continent. Held under the theme Linking Africa: Partners for Growth, the conference highlighted aviation as a strategic enabler of commerce, tourism and investment. Speaking on behalf of Namibia's Head of State, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Indileni Daniel said aviation was critical to development, particularly in a continent that remains among the least connected globally.

Speakers at the event stressed that improving connectivity will require more than infrastructure investment alone. Zambia Airports Corporation Limited Managing Director Desai Urvesh called for coordinated regulation, integrated airspace and fuller implementation of continental aviation initiatives, while Namibia Air Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Teofilus Shaende emphasised the importance of civil-military cooperation in maintaining safe and efficient airspace. The conference is expected to focus on priorities including air access, regulatory reform, infrastructure development, civil-military collaboration and progress on the Single African Air Transport Market.
