Air Sénégal to Resume Freetown Flights in July 2026 as West African Network Expands
Air Sénégal has confirmed it will reinstate services to Freetown, Sierra Leone, from July 2026, marking the Senegalese national carrier's return to the route after a period of suspension. The move forms part of a broader network expansion strategy that includes frequency increases on several existing regional services, reinforcing Dakar's role as a connectivity hub for West African capitals. The airline previously operated to Freetown via Banjul in The Gambia using Airbus A319 aircraft, and recent fleet additions - including Boeing 737s suited to medium-haul regional operations - are expected to support the expanded schedule.
The resumption comes as Air Sénégal continues to stabilise its operations under a government-backed rescue plan aimed at strengthening the carrier's financial and operational performance. The West African aviation market is growing increasingly competitive, with Air Sierra Leone also announcing plans to launch new routes in 2026, including services to Banjul and London. For travel professionals, the combined effect of these developments points to improving connectivity across the Atlantic coast of West Africa, with greater route options and more diverse itinerary-building potential for the region.
