Cape Town is deploying advanced aerial surveillance technology, the "Eye in the Sky," to enhance crime prevention efforts. This state-of-the-art system is a two-seater fixed-wing aircraft fitted with sophisticated cameras providing law enforcement situational awareness and aerial imagery during operations.

The “Eye in the Sky” is equipped with infrared cameras detecting body heat, guns that have been fired recently, and speeding vehicles, monitoring vast areas over extended periods. It aids in combating poaching, crime and illegal racing.

Beyond law enforcement, the technology monitors infrastructure, coastal zones, and biodiversity issues. By relaying precise information, it improves rapid response times during planned operations.

This marks a significant advancement in Cape Town's security arsenal, providing aerial surveillance capabilities to strengthen public safety efforts across the city.
