Saruni & Sera Conservancy extend their partnership for decades to come!
By Alia Bellamy, SaruniWe are thrilled to announce that we have successfully extended our Lease Agreement for 15 years with our local community partners in Sera, re-enforcing our continued commitment to invest in the land and conservation efforts in the area through tourism. Saruni is the only tourism partner in the conservancy with our current ‘intimate’ camp, Saruni Rhino, offering a truly unique experience in the 839,000-acre Sera Conservancy.
The 25,650-acres Sera Rhino Sanctuary is in the first community managed conservancy in Africa to own and operate a sanctuary dedicated to the conservation of the critically endangered black rhino and to date, through a successful breeding program, nine calves have been born bringing the total to 19 rhinos.
In strengthening this bond further, the Saruni Basecamp Foundation has committed a USD 57,000 (Ksh 5.7 million) grant via the Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) to support Women and Youth in the surrounding area, including facilitating financial literacy and entrepreneurship training, plus a livelihood fund for those in the community who need to access start-up finance for their business.
