Elewana elated with increased Leopard sightings in Loisaba
By Alia Bellamy, Elewana AfricaEarlier in the year we published a feature on the conservation program being conducted by San Diego Zoo Global on the leopard’s in Loisaba Conservancy and the valuable research that is carried out. It is so rewarding when the work being done pays off and with this we have had increased leopard sights in the area. Tracking the location of leopard sightings is mapped through a Citizen Science Initiative using tablet and SMART technology. All the Elewana Guides at Loisaba Tented Camp and Star Beds are equipped with a tablet, installed with the simple data collection model, which allows guests to record sightings when out on games drives. In September 18 leopards were mapped on different occasions;
Elewana are incredibly proud to partner with The Nature Conservancy and Loisaba Conservancy where this valuable conservation research is happening. All the revenue generated from Tourism activities on Loisaba is carefully reinvested into the conservancy and the surrounding communities.
