Zambia, Zimbabwe to run joint push on tourism and trade in Victoria Falls

Zambia and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed plans to position Victoria Falls as a regional hub for tourism and commerce, with a key BNC resolution to extend operating hours at the Victoria Falls Border Post to 24 hours. Announced in Harare and reiterated at a bilateral meeting in Victoria Falls, the move aims to reduce congestion, improve traveller convenience and speed up cross‑border trade, alongside proposals to modernise the Livingstone–Victoria Falls gateway.

Supporting measures under discussion include removing non‑tariff barriers and harmonising visa regimes, backed by the World Bank. Officials noted tourism has rebounded – Zambia recorded 2.2 million international arrivals and Zimbabwe 1.6 million – while bilateral trade stands at USD 460 million. Both countries stressed coordinated timelines and conservation of Mosi‑oa‑Tunya as they work to create a seamless visitor experience and broader economic gains for communities around the Falls.
