Zambia courts Indian film industry to boost tourism and creative economy

Zambia’s Minister of Tourism, Rodney Sikumba, has invited India’s film industry to partner on film production, film tourism and skills development to promote tourism and attract investment. Speaking at the launch of the inaugural Indian Film Festival in Lusaka on 24 January, he cited film’s role in destination marketing and highlighted Zambia’s diverse locations – waterfalls, rivers, wildlife areas, heritage sites and urban settings – alongside a stable, investor‑friendly environment.

Government support will include facilitation of permits, access to locations and coordination across institutions to streamline shoots. India’s High Commissioner to Zambia, Alok Ranjan Jha, noted the scale and diversity of India’s film sector and signalled interest in joint productions, cultural exchange and creative partnerships. The festival, held ahead of India’s 77th Republic Day, is expected to provide a platform for collaboration that strengthens connectivity, tourism and sector growth.
