Zambia advances Nacala Corridor revival to boost regional connectivity
Zambia is progressing plans to revive the Nacala Corridor, a strategic rail and logistics route linking the country to Mozambique’s Port of Nacala via Malawi. A renewed agreement to restore the Chipata–Mchinji railway line will create the shortest rail connection from Zambia to the Indian Ocean, significantly improving freight efficiency and regional trade flows.
The corridor is considered a critical infrastructure project for landlocked countries in Southern Africa, enhancing access to global markets and supporting economic integration across Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique. Beyond trade, improved rail connectivity is expected to have wider benefits for tourism and travel logistics, reinforcing the region’s position as a more connected and competitive destination.
