Uganda launches comprehensive tourism app
Uganda has unveiled a new mobile application designed to revolutionise its tourism sector, providing a centralised platform for visitors seeking information about the country's attractions, accommodations, and services.
The innovative app, developed as part of Uganda's strategy to position tourism as one of its four key economic pillars alongside manufacturing, agro-processing, and ICT, aims to address longstanding challenges in tourism information delivery.
The Uganda Tourism Board's new platform will serve as a real-time information hub, enabling visitors to access accurate updates about security, weather conditions, and travel advisories. This development comes as the country seeks to counter negative perceptions and provide reassurance to potential visitors about safety and accessibility.
Beyond basic tourist information, the app features practical tools including location services for attractions, emergency services, and alternative route planning in case of disruptions. It also provides opportunities for local businesses to showcase their tourism-related products and services.
The initiative arrives as Uganda's tourism sector shows strong recovery post-COVID-19, with visitor numbers approaching pre-pandemic levels. Officials expect the digital platform to play a crucial role in achieving the country's ambitious tourism revenue targets and establishing Uganda as a premier African destination.
