Uganda hosts Kenya Coast Tourism Conference, boosting regional tourism
For the first time, Uganda will host the Uganda-Kenya Coast Tourism Conference on 20–21 November 2024 at Speke Resort Munyonyo. Under the theme, “The Uganda-Kenya Coast Partnership: Promoting Job Creation, Inclusivity, and Sustainability,” the event aims to strengthen tourism ties between Uganda and Kenya’s coastal regions.
With over 500 tourism professionals expected to attend, the conference will foster collaboration and support joint promotion of regional tourism. Although Kenya is Uganda’s primary source of tourists, many Kenyan agents have traditionally promoted Rwanda for attractions like mountain gorillas. This conference offers Kenyan stakeholders the opportunity to experience Uganda’s unique offerings firsthand.
Uganda Airlines’ Entebbe-Mombasa route will be highlighted as an alternative to Kenya Airways’ Nairobi connection, simplifying travel between the countries. In the lead-up to the event, 70 Kenyan tourism stakeholders are on a familiarisation tour of Ugandan sites such as Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and the Source of the Nile. A golf tournament on 9 November further encouraged camaraderie between the two nations.
