U.S. Public Health Screening Ends for Air Passengers from Rwanda
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have officially ended the redirection requirements and public health entry screening for US-bound air passengers from Rwanda, effective December 4, 2024. This policy change allows travellers who have been in Rwanda within the past 21 days to enter the United States through any authorised port of entry, eliminating the previous requirement to arrive via three designated screening airports.
This decision follows two significant developments: the downgrade of Rwanda's Travel Advisory from Level 3 to Level 2 on November 22, 2024, and the discharge of the last known Marburg Virus Disease patient who tested negative on November 8, 2024. With the World Health Organization initiating Rwanda's 42-day countdown to declare the end of the outbreak and no new cases reported, the U.S. Government is working to ensure a smooth transition while maintaining public health safety measures.
